Employee and Labor Relations Specialist- Direct Hire

TES Staffing is partnering with one of the most renowned SUNY colleges in Western New York to assist with hiring.  Currently we are seeking applications for an experienced Employee Relations Specialist to support a two-year term need.  

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President, the Employee Relations Specialist will support the division of Academic Affairs in collaboration with leaders from the Provost’s Office. Independent judgment will be required as this position will support a breadth of human resources areas. The Specialist will engage in team member training and mentoring, working with department chairs and managers on supervisory and employee relation related topics and ongoing adherence with SUNY guidelines and state, federal and other relevant laws and protocols. 

Details and Qualifications:
Direct Hire, Pay- Depending on experience, starting at $70k/annually
  • Must have 5 years of experience in labor and employee relations
  • Must have a Bachelors Degree
  • Prior experience working in the public sector, unionized environment, preferably in higher education is preferred, but not required

Job Duties:
This position will independently handle/advise on employee and labor relations matters as assigned by AVP:
  • Provide support and guidance to supervisors and staff on a range of matters including:
    • Application of collective bargaining agreements
    • Informal and formal coaching and counseling
    • Workplace investigations, union grievances, and administration of the disciplinary process, where applicable within the division of Academic Affairs
    • Complete research projects as they relate to employee and labor relations issues
    • Compiles reports for managerial information purposes.
 
  • Provides human resources support to the division and ensures:
    • Employee and labor relations matters are resolved in a fair, consistent, and collaborative manner. 
  • In collaboration with Human Resources and the Provost’s Office:
    • Ensures legal compliance updates in accordance with regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and College policies, are applied timely to HR-related matters and processes within the division. 
    • As time allows, works with the Academic Affairs leadership to advance proactive training, and further document divisional HR related processes and procedures.
