Essential Job Responsibilities:

Classroom/Program Management:

  • Engage and Care: Provide attentive supervision and daily care to all children in your assigned classroom.

  • Creative Planning: Develop and implement fun, developmentally appropriate activities and experiences.

  • Innovative Teaching: Use diverse teaching techniques like modeling, observing, demonstrating, and open-ended questioning.

  • Safety First: Ensure all activities are carried out safely and efficiently.

  • Positive Guidance: Utilize positive language and reinforcement, and redirect behavior as needed.

  • Flexible Activities: Plan a variety of activities to keep the children engaged.

  • Inviting Environment: Keep the classroom clean, neat, organized, and welcoming.

Children/Parent Interactions:

  • Effective Communication: Use appropriate language and tone with children.

  • Self-Esteem Boosting: Promote self-esteem and self-help skills.

  • Warmth and Affection: Show genuine warmth and affection to all children.

  • Family Engagement: Share daily updates about children’s activities and progress with their families.

  • Adaptable Care: Follow families' instructions for daily care routines.

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences: Conduct bi-annual conferences and be available as needed.

  • Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality when discussing any child-related issues.

  • Welcoming Tours: Communicate effectively with potential families during tours.

Staff Relations:

  • Team Collaboration: Foster a cooperative team approach.

  • Active Participation: Engage in regular staff meetings and yearly program evaluations.

  • Leadership: Provide guidance to assistant teachers and co-workers.

Professional Development:

  • Continuous Learning: Participate in workshops and training per OCFS regulations and pursue additional professional development.

  • Stay Informed: Keep current with policies, OCFS regulations, National Accreditation guidelines, and other pertinent regulations.

Communication:

  • Daily Interaction: Maintain daily, in-person contact with families, co-workers, and supervisors.

  • Written Documentation: Monitor development and record accidents, illnesses, medication administration, and other relevant information.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or 12 credit hours in Early Childhood Education with plans for further education.

  • Certification: Foundations in Health and Safety Certificate (or willingness to complete training within the first week of hire).

  • Experience: At least 1 year of program experience.

  • Knowledge: Thorough understanding of early childhood development practices and regulatory environments.

  • Physical/Mental Abilities: Must be physically and mentally capable of providing daily routine care and quick reactions in emergencies.

  • Skills: Strong leadership, effective communication with parents, children, staff, and supervisors, flexible with varied assignments, positive attitude, and teamwork orientation.
