Apply to Part-Time Robotics Instructor
Part-Time STEAM Instructor
$18–$20/hour | 15–25 hours/week | Year-Round Work
Great with people? Comfortable with a little chaos? We can teach you the robots.
If you've worked in restaurants, hospitality, events, theater, recreation, customer service, or the gig world, you probably already have many of the skills we're looking for.
Can you walk into a room and take charge? Keep a group engaged? Think on your feet when something doesn't go according to plan? Stay upbeat when ten things are happening at once?
We can teach you the STEAM part.
TES Staffing is looking for energetic, dependable people to lead hands-on STEAM classes and activities for kids throughout the Rochester area.
You'll guide children through fun, creative projects that introduce engineering, building, problem-solving, and robotics. The curriculum, materials, and training are provided; you bring the personality, reliability, and ability to run the room.
Why this is a great side gig
This isn't seasonal work that disappears after summer.
We can offer work all year long, making this a great fit if you're looking to consistently add 15–25 hours to your week.
Schedules can include weekdays, evenings, weekends, school breaks, camps, parties, and special programs. We'll work to accommodate your existing commitments while giving you opportunities to pick up consistent hours throughout the year.
What you'll actually do
You'll travel to program locations around the Rochester area and lead groups of kids through pre-planned STEAM activities.
You'll be responsible for:
-
Getting kids excited and engaged
-
Explaining projects and activities in an approachable way
-
Keeping the group focused and the classroom moving
-
Managing different personalities, energy levels, questions, interruptions, and all the other STUFF that comes with a room full of kids
-
Helping kids work through frustration and celebrate their successes
-
Setting up and cleaning up program materials
-
Creating a welcoming, inclusive and FUN environment
No robotics, engineering, coding, or teaching experience is required. You'll receive training, curriculum, materials, and support.
You might be great at this if you've worked as a:
Server • Bartender • Event Staff • Tour Guide • Performer • Recreation Staff • Customer Service Professional • Coach • Babysitter • Camp Staff • Party Host • Museum Staff • Brand Ambassador
We're less concerned about your exact job title and more interested in whether you can connect with people, manage a group, stay organized, and roll with the unexpected.
The non-negotiable: You need a car.
You MUST have a valid driver's license AND your own reliable vehicle.
This is not a position where you report to the same building every day. Instructors travel to different program sites throughout the Rochester area, generally within a 10–15 mile radius. We will reimburse you for milage.
If you don't have reliable access to a vehicle, this unfortunately will not be the right position for you.
What we're looking for
You should be:
-
Energetic, positive, and comfortable leading a room
-
Genuinely good with children
-
Reliable and punctual
-
Comfortable adapting when plans change
-
Able to communicate clearly with kids and adults
-
Comfortable lifting up to 35 lbs.
-
Willing to obtain CPR/First Aid certification; we'll help arrange it if needed
-
Available for a combination of weekday, weekend, holiday, or school-break programming depending on your schedule
Pay: $18.00–$20.00/hour
Hours: Approximately 15–25 hours/week
Work available year-round
If you're looking for extra income but want something a lot more interesting than picking up another restaurant shift, we'd love to meet you.
