The Role
Payroll is one of those functions everyone depends on - and strong HR support is what keeps the employee experience organized behind the scenes. TES Staffing is hiring an experienced Payroll & HR Specialist who takes real pride in getting the details right, following through, and being someone others can count on. This is a trusted, hands-on role supporting weekly and bi-weekly payroll, commissioned and field employees, and key day-to-day HR administration in partnership with the company's existing HR resource.
This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional who enjoys both structure and people - someone who can own recurring deadlines while keeping HR documents, recruiting support, performance-review tracking, and employee requirements moving forward. The right person is organized, discreet, proactive, and comfortable following up when something needs to get done.
What You Will Own
- Process accurate weekly and bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
- Manage payroll for commissioned employees and ensure calculations align with internal compensation structures.
- Review and verify hours worked, timecards, PTO, and job-site allocations before payroll is finalized.
- Maintain accurate employee and payroll data within payroll and timekeeping systems.
- Ensure taxes, benefits, garnishments, and other deductions are withheld and recorded correctly.
- Partner closely with Accounting and HR to keep information flowing cleanly and resolve discrepancies quickly.
- Prepare payroll reports and respond professionally to employee, internal, and external payroll questions.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour requirements.
- Support year-end payroll processes, including W-2s and tax filings.
- Maintain core HR documents and templates, including job responsibilities, job descriptions, and offer letters, keeping them accurate and current.
- Screen resumes for open positions and help identify qualified candidates for manager and HR partner review.
- Support the existing HR partner with day-to-day coordination, documentation, follow-up, and employee-related administrative needs.
- Track employee performance reviews and proactively follow up with managers to keep review cycles on schedule.
- Track required HR documentation and employee requirements, flag missing or overdue items, and help ensure records stay organized and complete.
What Success Looks Like
- Payroll is accurate, complete, and on time - every cycle.
- Questions and discrepancies are handled quickly, calmly, and with strong follow-through.
- Payroll records, employee data, and job allocations are organized and reliable.
- Accounting and HR can count on you as a responsive, knowledgeable partner.
- Employees trust that their pay is being handled carefully and confidentially.
- HR documents are current, organized, and reliable.
- Resume screening, review tracking, and employee requirements keep moving without managers having to chase the process.
- The HR partner has a dependable administrative partner who notices gaps, follows up, and closes loops.
What You Bring
- 3-5 years of hands-on payroll processing experience.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll and timekeeping systems such as ADP, Paychex, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with sensitive information confidentially.
- A solid understanding of wage and hour laws, payroll taxes, deductions, and compliance requirements.
- Comfort supporting HR administration, maintaining employee documentation, and following up with managers and employees on time-sensitive requirements.
- Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to manage recurring deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
Experience That Will Help You Stand Out
- Payroll experience supporting a field-based, project-driven, or skilled-trades workforce.
- Experience supporting commission-based payroll.
- Familiarity with union payroll and certified payroll reporting.
- Previous HR coordination, employee-records experience.
- Experience supporting performance-review cycles, onboarding documentation, or other recurring HR processes.
