HR Generalist / HR Coordinator (Nonprofit, Growth Opportunity) - Direct Hire

Geneva, NY · Human Resources
HR Generalist / HR Coordinator (Nonprofit, Growth Opportunity)
Geneva, NY area (On-site with some flexibility)
About the Organization
We’re partnering with a small, close-knit nonprofit supporting adults with disabilities in a residential and day program setting. With ~70 employees and growing, this organization is known for its warm, people-first culture, where staff build real relationships with the individuals they serve.

Located right on the lake near Geneva, this is a team that works hard, supports each other, and genuinely enjoys spending time together (think summer BBQs by the pool and a strong sense of community).
Why This Role is Open
The HR function is in transition, and the team is looking for someone who can step in quickly, bring structure, and help shape what HR looks like moving forward. This is an opportunity to own the day-to-day AND help build better systems and processes over time.
What You’ll Do
This is a hands-on, high-impact role where no two days look the same:
Recruiting & Onboarding
  • Manage job postings, applicant tracking, and candidate communication
  • Coordinate interviews and support hiring managers
  • Run background checks, credentialing, and new hire documentation
  • Own onboarding logistics (systems access, training coordination, etc.)
HR Operations & Employee Support
  • Be the go-to for employee questions (payroll, PTO, benefits, policies)
  • Support payroll processes (Paychex) and ensure accurate timekeeping
  • Maintain HR files, track certifications, and ensure clean documentation
Compliance & HR Administration
  • Track FMLA, PFL, workers’ comp, and required certifications
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and internal policies
  • Support audits and maintain organized employee records
Employee Relations & Culture
  • Act as a first point of contact for employee concerns
  • Help foster a positive, supportive workplace culture
  • Partner with leadership on HR best practices and improvements
Growth Opportunity
  • Help build and improve HR processes and systems
  • Opportunity to expand into a more strategic HR role over time

What We are Looking For
  • 2–5 years of HR experience (Generalist or strong Coordinator)
  • Strong organizational skills; you keep things moving and on track
  • Experience with recruiting and employee-facing HR work
  • Knowledge of FMLA, leave tracking, and HR compliance basics
  • Comfortable working independently (no internal HR team, support from outsourced company)
  • High emotional intelligence and a genuine people-first mindset
Nice to Have:
  • SHRM certification or similar
  • Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or regulated environments
Compensation & Schedule
  • $50K–$65K salary range (flexible based on experience)
  • ~30 hours/week to start, with potential to grow into full-time
  • Some flexibility in schedule (including potential hybrid after ramp-up)
Benefits & Perks
  • Medical (employee premium fully covered on base plan)
  • Dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k) with 3% match
  • Generous PTO + 9 paid holidays
  • A truly supportive, team-oriented environment
  • Fun extras: staff events, summer BBQs, and a beautiful lakeside setting
