Position: Technical Designer – Custom Fabrication
Location: Rochester NY
Employment Type: Direct Hire
About Us:
TES Staffing is proud to partner with a local company that brings architectural metal to life. From large-scale pergolas to intricate railing systems, our client specializes in custom, design-forward fabrication projects. Their work is never off-the-shelf—it’s precise, collaborative, and built to last. With a small, tight-knit team and an ever-growing project load, we are looking to add a capable, curious, and hands-on Technical Designer – Custom Fabrication to this crew.

What You'll Do:
  • Create internal and submittal drawings from concept through fabrication
  • Develop detailed shop drawings and 3D renderings for use by clients and fabricators
  • Interpret and break down complex, long-term architectural projects (some spanning 1–2 years)
  • Talk directly with clients, vendors, and our fabricators to get the details right
  • Order materials and assist with creating Bills of Materials (BOM) and procurement spreadsheets
  • Utilize 3D scanning tools to digitize job sites for measurement and modeling
  • Program CNC equipment for precise execution of unique parts
  • Visit job sites occasionally for measurements and coordination
  • Act as a bridge between design intent and real-world buildability

Tools & Skills You'll Use:
  • AutoCAD, Revit (open to a range of proficiencies)
  • CNC programming (a plus, not a must)
  • 3D scanning and measurement tools
  • Strong communication skills—collaboration with both shop and office teams
  • Strong awareness of how things are built—not just how they look

What We're Looking For:
  • 2–3+ years of experience in a design/drafting role (ideally with architectural or fabrication exposure)
  • Architectural education or background is preferred
  • Someone who’s ready to roll up their sleeves and work through the full build process
  • A detail-oriented designer with curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to grow
  • Bonus points if you’ve worked in or around a metal shop, construction site, or similar hands-on environment

What You’ll Get:
  • Salary starting at $70,000+, with flexibility to offer more based on experience
  • Direct hire role with health insurance after 60 days
  • 401(k) with 3% employer match (after one year)
  • Two weeks PTO + Paid Holidays
  • Close-knit team in a collaborative environment
  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM
