Your Purpose:
As a UPK Teacher, you'll be the cornerstone of the classroom, responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. You'll help children grow at their own pace and develop socially, physically, emotionally, and cognitively.
Reporting To:
Director, Assistant Director, or other designated Administrator
Supervising:
Assistant Teachers
Collaborating With:
Designated School District
What You Bring:
- Keen observational skills to respond to children’s needs and emergencies.
- Physical ability to lift 30 pounds and move quickly to ensure child safety.
- Comfort interacting at a child’s height, maintaining eye contact, and sitting on the floor.
- Good health, confirmed by a physician, and proof of being free of tuberculosis.
- New York State Registry and Criminal History Fingerprint clearance.
Your Responsibilities:
- Policy Adherence: Follow all Care-a-lot Child Care policies and NYS OCFS regulations.
- Child Care: Attend to children’s personal needs (diapering, toileting, feeding, etc.).
- Program Implementation: Plan and implement age-appropriate activities aligned with NAEYC.
- Classroom Management: Create an inviting, organized learning environment.
- Team Supervision: Delegate responsibilities and supervise assistant teachers.
- Positive Interaction: Engage with children respectfully and encouragingly.
- Parental Communication: Develop strong relationships with parents and provide regular updates.
- Documentation: Maintain classroom records for OCFS and the District.
- Health and Safety: Stay informed of children’s allergies and ensure safety.
- Collaboration: Work effectively with staff and provide support as needed.
- Administrative Duties: Manage classroom operations and complete necessary paperwork.
- Professional Development: Maintain an updated Aspire account and complete required training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of NYS child care regulations and NAEYC guidelines.
- Effective communication and supervisory skills.
- Ability to foster positive relationships with children, co-workers, and parents.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and team leadership abilities.
- Flexibility, creativity, and patience in a dynamic environment.
Training and Experience:
- UPK Teacher: NYS Teaching Certification (Birth-2), or
- A Bachelor's Degree with at least 6 credit hours in early childhood education, or
- At least 6 months of experience in a school-based setting with children under 6, with a commitment to obtaining NY State Early Childhood Teacher Certification within three years of employment.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional growth through education, work experience, and involvement in the early childhood community.
