School Registered Nurse

In partnership with an approved private special education school offering both residential  and day placements for students with developmental disabilities, TES Staffing is actively searching for a School Registered Nurse, 

Our client is an available option for school districts seeking an out-of-district placement for students who need an alternative educational path due to their developmental disabilities. with a broad expertise working with students across the entire range of developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as with children who struggle with behavioral challenges.

Details and Qualifications: 

  • Monday-Friday 7:30a-3:30p
  • Pay: $30/hr + (depending on experience level) 
  • Medication certification practicum and recertification as required by state and/or licensing
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in NYS
  • Associate degree may be accepted with three (3) years of experience working with students
  • NYS Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
Job Responsibilities:
  • The Registered School Nurse works with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and is responsible for the oversight of the students' medical needs as well as their general health and medical management
  • Provide direction and oversight to staff for the medical needs of individuals served, consistent with the City and State Regulations, guardians, physicians, and other consulting staff
  • Maintain proper documentation for administering medication, treatment, and assessment, and provide required reports as needed
  • Keep all medical records in accordance with FERPA and other applicable confidentiality laws
  • Provide a response to non-emergency medical situations within 15 minutes of a related call
  • Triage when necessary and as needed, respond with emergency medical care until appropriate EMS personnel arrive
  • Prepare incident reports and inform all appropriate parties as required
  • Report medication errors, including missed dosages, to the family and/or residential nursing staff before the end of the school day, including OTC medications
  • Maintain ample medical and first aid supplies, adequate medications which are accurately labeled and securely stored, and a safe and orderly medication area
  • Train and supervise staff in relation to medical and health treatment for individuals served
  • Provide health education training, including OPWDD training for TA's
  • Maintain documentation and prepare reports as required by program policy
  • Obtain needed medical, clinical, and dental records and treatment for children
  • Work with local PCP's to medically clear each day-student for potential SCIP interventions prior to the start of each school year (July-June)
  • Maintain the security of controlled substances legally on school premises
  • Provide nursing care in OPWDD licensed ICF's on campus in emergency circumstances
  • Provide assistance in scheduling medical and dental appointments and ensure follow-through with families and follow up treatment as ordered
  • Provide health education groups as needed
  • Conduct monthly audits of 3M, HIP, Seizure and Medication Administration Record (MAR) documents
  • Participate and attend treatment team meetings and provide health-related information to team members
  • Be the Safety Liaison for the program
